THE group was formed in January 1999 in which we established our involvement in Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival by participating in Port of Spain in the Medium Section with our presentation 'SAVAGE GARDEN'.
We won the King and Queen of Carnival, the first time in the history of the competition that a medium size band achieved this feat.
In 2000,we went to the plains of Africa and portrayed, SERENGETI which was a real challenge to us, as we contracted a music band from the United Kingdom through sponsorship. JMC Triveni were also contracted for the first time and were awarded second place in all the competitions. It however, signaled that this band attracted more mas players and there was something that they appreciated.
In 2001, we portrayed Winds of Change and again our representative won the King of Carnival and the band was bigger with the presence of Byron Lee & the Dragonaires amongst the music groups. Trini Revellers were recognized as being a family band as everyone interacted with one another and customer satisfaction was evident by the enjoyment displayed in the band.
In 2002,we brought forward a significant presentation, Six Days and Seven Nights in Shanghai which was an outstanding success having captured all the major awards, including Band of the Year Award for Medium sized bands. That year indicated that Trini Revellers were moving in the right direction as we revealed authentic presentations which involved detailed research but which were well accepted by the public as there was an outcry to move from the monopoly of the beaded costumes.
In 2003, we presented Gathering of the Tribes which again continued to dominate the Medium group as Trini Revellers won the Band of the Year and the band was now set to venture into the large category. The committee continued to work towards improving the quality of costumes, the all- inclusive package which was becoming popular and the security of its mas players. We continued to enjoy what we were doing and having a good time was an evident quality throughout the band.
In 2004 as any successful business, Trini Revellers had to enter in the large category as the management continued to explore with the demands and the band continuously attracted interested groups to join and participate with the 'family band'. We presented Arabian Nights which was an explosion of colour and revelry highlighting the moonlight over Bhagdad, Persian Warriors, Belly Dancers, Jhinees, Harems and the Sheiks, Sultans and Emirs who were on display in the streets of Port of Spain. That was a period rich in culture, history and heritage of a time, considered to be medieval Islam. The portrayal brought us our greatest achievement to date as we won the Band of the Year – Large having competed in this group for the first time. It was a wonderful feeling for the team's effort – committees, section leaders, music groups and the mas players.
In 2005, we portrayed yet another historical epic – Conquest of the Indies – the main designer being Geraldo Vieira jnr. This was a real challenge as we highlighted sections such as El Dorado, Montezuma's Gold, Cusco – the Puma city, The Toltecs, Pearls of Margarita, Espana/Granada, Rio Azul, The Caribbean Sea, King Sugar, Vela Dorada, The Arenales Indians, Hispanola, The Ghost of Edward Teach and others. We began the story from the Columbus era in 1492 through the 1800s' in order to portray the various changes that were taking place in the area.
In 2006, our committee selected, ROME THE EMPIRE,which we knew was going to be our biggest challenge.
When the Romans had conquered the whole of Italy, South of the Rubicon, they became involved in a series of wars with another great power, Cartage or Poeni as the Romans called this nation. We sought to depict Rome in a manner to glamourize the city and all its activities with its surrounding countries.
Rome was known for its pomp and pageantry. We had portrayals such as The Trumpeteers, The Eagle Bearers, Archers, Roman Generals, Romanus Ferratus Militis, Mediterranean Sea, Siege of Cartage, Gladiators, Chariots of Fire, Roman Dancers, Eruption of Vesuvius, Anthony and Cleopatra, Sextus and Livia, Saturnalia, Guards and Goddess, Baci Di Roma, The River Tiber, The Senators and The Burning of Rome. A tremendous presentation which again won us the Major awards including the George Bailey Band of the Year Award and many others.
We were awarded Band of the Year again, three years consecutively, and won every major award at the competitions. We have achieved compliments from all areas of the society and from our International friends to continue on the present trend in reintroducing costumes into Carnival.
Trini Revellers continue to explore for greater enjoyment for its customers and to present to the public portrayals which will depict and showcase mas for all, exhibiting the skill, craftmanship, planning and execution for our future presentations.
